Amplify your capacity to address transdiagnostic symptoms like anxiety and agitation through music. Evidence-based music therapy techniques combined with mindfulness attitudes can be utilized to support clients coping with stress and dysregulation. Grounding techniques are far from one-size-fits-all, and leveraging the immersive qualities of music can support clients for whom more conventional mindfulness-based relaxation strategies may seem daunting at first. This interactive presentation will demonstrate several music therapy strategies that can be adapted to promote grounding in counseling practice. Gain insight into the way musical elements like tempo and volume can significantly influence physical responses like heart rate and respiratory rate. Discover a new and notable way to cope with distress. Published through the American Counseling Association CE Credit: 1.0 NBCC Hours; 0 CRCC Hours; 1.0 WA Hours; 0 APT Hours; 0 NAADAC Hours; 1 NY Hours; 0 Ethics Hours

Man Enjoying Music

Navigating the intersection of music therapy and mental health counseling can be both rewarding and complex. Whether you are a board-certified music therapist pursuing additional training in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, a music therapist working in mental health settings seeking support in developing counseling skills, or a student therapist exploring a counseling career pathway, supervision and consultation can provide valuable guidance and professional growth. These services offer a supportive space to explore challenges commonly faced by music therapists, including clarifying scope of practice, integrating musical and verbal therapeutic interventions, strengthening clinical conceptualization, and developing a reflexive approach to practice. Particular attention is given to self-of-the-therapist work, helping clinicians deepen self-awareness and understand how their identities, experiences, and therapeutic presence influence the clinical relationship. Through collaborative supervision and consultation, clinicians can enhance confidence, expand their counseling competencies, and cultivate an integrated, ethical, and intentional approach to mental health practice within and beyond music therapy.
